UFC, Nathaniel Wood a TuttoMMA: “Coronavirus? Situazione spaventosa. Giusto che UFC si fermi”

23 Marzo 2020 1 Di Ernesto Piane

Senza dilungarci troppo, ecco l’intervista tradotta per voi (scroll down to read the full interview in English).

“Scegliere il fight of the night è estremamente difficile!

“Grazie amici!”

Hello Nathaniel, thanks for your time. First of all, how are you? Where are you based at the moment? “I’m very well thank you. I’m currently based in London where I have grown up all my life”.

We are seeing that the situation is deteriorating worldwide, how are you feeling about it? “It’s a very scary situation at the moment, I’m trying to filter what I see on the media as they play a lot on the fear factor”.

Do you think that the UK government is doing a good job at managing this dangerous situation? “I think the government are doing their best, however a lot of people are unsure on what the best solutions are”.

In Manchester, they went ahead with a Cage Warriors card with no audience present. Do you think the event was well-organised? “For cage warriors to of made that show possible is amazing. They must have gone to a lot of trouble to make it happen”.

This could be the last MMA card for a while. What do you think was the best bout of the night? “Best fight of the night is hard for me! There were so many cracking fights, it wouldn’t be fair to single one out”.

Now, let’s talk about you. Do you want to share with us some thoughts about your last bout? “My last match was an eye opener. I felt good throughout the fight until I received a cut about my eye from a head clash. Once I received this, I was eager to finish the fight as I was worried the doctor would stop the fight, for a split second I let me guard down and got caught. I was still in the fight but unfortunately the ref felt he needed to step in”.

After a challenging match like your last one, what is your way to recover and get back to work? “As soon as I arrived back home, I was straight back in the gym, I received no serious damage other than the cut, coming off a loss has made me even more hungry to get back in there and rectify it”.

What do you think about the UFC’s decision to postpone their next events? “It’s very unfortunate to see the next three UFC postponed, especially when fighters do everything they can to prepare for their bouts, however what is going on is more important than us fighters competing and I believe the UFC are doing everything in the publics best interest”.

Can you tell us the story behind your nickname “The Prospect”? “It was my dad who originally came up with the nickname before my first fight, its stuck ever since”.

Who is a fighter that has your respect in the Bantamweight Division and who are you likely to fight next? “Dominick Cruz is a fighter who I respect a lot in the bantamweight division. As for my next opponent whoever the UFC decide to match me against, I feel sorry for whoever that is!”

Do you have a message for your Italian fans that will read this interview? “Thank you for all of your support, I have visited Italy before and met some amazing people, I hope everyone stays safe during the crisis which is happening all over the world right now with the coronavirus”.

Thank you Nathaniel and good luck! “Thank you guys. Grazie amici!”
